Raise your glasses and your expectations as you sit atop the quaint fishing village of Mevagissey. Penpol’s sun terrace is a widescreen extravagance of bobbing boats and aquamarine seas. Relax and savour the peace.
Back through the French doors, the house is a perfect coastal haven. The main house and cottage sleep ten in cosy and charming comfort with the Aga, rolltop baths, en-suite bathrooms and woodburner.
But the sun terrace is the focus of life here. Unwind with a sundowner as you fire up the barbie and toast the Riviera views. Penpol is the cream of Cornwall.
Step out on to the terrace garden and enjoy the scents of the potted herbs. Help yourselves to our herbs to spice up your dinner.
The garden at Penpol has stunning views over the harbour, perfect for al fresco dining and soaking up the sun in the summer months.
Enjoy the peace of the secret chapel garden, blissfully quiet.
The main sitting room at Penpol is a welcoming room with french doors opening out onto the sun terrace. Warm up on winter nights and fire up the wood burning stove, while enjoying a quiet night in with family and friends.
Dogs adore Penpol, running around the gardens, snoozing in the sun or curling up by the woodburner.
Penpol has a large kitchen diner, complete with a four oven Aga and a pantry for you to make use of. There is a bar seating four for those who want to keep the cook company.
Penpol has five lovely bedrooms. Three in the main house and a further two in The Garden House.
The first floor has two double bedrooms with en suite bathrooms with Victorian style baths and separate showers. The top floor has a third double bedroom with en suite bathroom with a Victorian style bath with shower attachment.
Each spacious bedroom has masses of storage, a TV and sofa or chairs, so everyone is comfortable and well catered for in every way.
The Garden House has two double bedrooms, one with an en suite bathroom and one with an en suite shower room.
Mevagissey is still just as charming in winter. Boats bob in the harbour and the cottages are beacons of colour along the quiet, winding streets. The fish and chips are still to die for and the pubs and restaurants glow with a warm welcome.
Wrap up for a walk on a beautiful, deserted beach. Enjoy tennis, golf, shooting and sailing on crisp, clear days. Make the most of Cornwall’s many attractions, including the Eden Project and St Ives Tate, when the maddening crowds are far away.
Change the scene this Christmas to bobbing boats and twinkling harbour lights. Come together as a family, with wood on the fire, decorations on the tree and festive films on the TV. The wind might howl outside, the waves might lash at the town’s defences, but Penpol is a cosy Cornish haven of warmth and winter wonder.
After popping open the champagne, feasting on turkey and pud and unwrapping the presents, stroll along Mevagissey’s twisty street and the harbour wall to admire the stunning sea view before returning to enjoy Christmas cake in front of the fire.
