Rediscover your nearest and dearest

Wonderful Somerset escape. Twenty two acres of gardens and grounds. Children's play area. The ultimate in relaxation.

Cossington Park offers a very warm welcome

Take armfuls of books and DVDs and relax between both houses as the kids discover the play area complete with fort, Wendy house, swing, slide, basketball hoop and footy nets. Award-winning Cossington Park in rural Somerset is a place to get seriously chilled and rediscover your family and friends – lots of them.

With capacity for 22 and 22 sprawling acres, you can be as social or solitary as you please. Informal and relaxed yet full of history too with its portraits and artefacts from a family ship, Cossington Park offers a very warm welcome. One that’s set among nature reserves, historic abbeys, duck ponds and thatched roofs, yet just a short drive from the M5.

The iconic names leap off the page like salmon from a Quantock stream: the Polden Hills, the Somerset Levels, Glastonbury Tor, Bridgwater, Cheddar Gorge, Wookey Hole Caves, Dunster Castle, Exmoor, the Mendips, Bath and Wells, and the lions of Longleat. All on your doorstep.

Cossington is located on the edge of the Somerset Levels and the Polden Hills, between Glastonbury and Bridgwater. It is only five minutes (three and a half miles) from the M5 motorway, 30 miles south of Bristol. Where better to rediscover your family and friends?

Gardens and Grounds

A garden called The Tilting Yard, a pond called Ha-ha, an orchard, a games field – you can find it all among Cossington’s 22 acres. Want to be entertained? We can fix archery and falconry in the gardens, a hot-air balloon over Cheddar Gorge or even horse-drawn carriage rides.

Around the house you will discover: The Tilting Yard – a small, pretty garden in front of the house; the Main Garden – situated on the south side of the house and featuring a large lawn;  The Kitchen Garden and Barbeque– a pleasant area for the cook’s glass of wine.

Just beyond the stable yard is the games field – a grassy area for football, basket ball, badminton, plus a children’s play area with playhouse, slide and fort. Venture further through the gardens and you can find: the ‘Ha ha’ – a large pond that separates the Main Garden from the Orchard; the Orchard – a meadow with old apple trees, mature limes, abundant cowslips, a bog garden and a wild garden; Bushey Close – a field beyond the Orchard, sometimes used for horses, archery or falconry; various ponds that are abundantly supplied with newts, including many of the endangered great crested newts; and The Walled Garden.

Living Spaces

The Drawing Room, Snug and Library Dining Room open onto very extensive and peaceful gardens, which in turn lead to fields beyond. There is little noise other than occasional ‘mooing’ or ‘crowing’ from Great Tree Farm next door and lots of space for the kids to let off steam.

The Library Dining Room seats up to 22, including a table for children’s teas in the Breakfast Room. There are two staircases to the first floor, one leading to the bedrooms in the old part of the house and the other to the wing built in 1901.

The Old Kitchen is a large, farmhouse-style kitchen overlooking the Tilting Yard. It is really well-equipped with a large Britannia cooker, microwave, dishwashers and cooking utensils.

The Pantry is ideal as a breakfast room, for afternoon teas and children’s meals or as an alternative dining room and there are French windows out onto the kitchen garden. The Scullery joins onto the Old Kitchen and has a large refrigerator, freezer, a butler’s sink and a second dishwasher. The former Larder is now a laundry and has a washing machine and dryer and a second refrigerator. There is also a door to the Kitchen Garden, which makes this a good place to leave coats and boots.

Bedrooms

There are nine bedrooms here, six in The Park House and three in The Park Cottage. But numbers do no justice to the beauty of the experience. On the first floor of The Park House there are six luxuriously furnished bedrooms and four bathrooms. In addition, Pooh’s Corner has two single sofa-beds.

Chaucer and The Trusty Servant bedrooms are in the oldest part of the house. Jolly Monks, The Cobbler and The Pump Room are in the 1901 wing and The Nursery is accessible from both wings. There are full-size beds for up to 12 people and sofa-beds for 3 or 4. There is also a put-u-up bed and two cots, so lots of combinations are possible.

All rooms except The Pump Room and The Nursery can take an extra bed or cot. At the end of the 1901 wing, the House Bathroom has a full size bath with high-level shower unit over it. It serves The Pump Room and The Trusty Servant and is an alternative bathroom for The Cobbler.

If this wasn’t enough there are also a further three bedrooms tucked away in the cottage next door. One located on the ground floor with a separate bathroom and the other two bedrooms upstairs with a shared bathroom.

Children Welcome

Cossington Park was built for kids. When they tire of the fort or Wendy house, there’s the swing and slide. For the sporty, there’s a basketball hoop and football nets. For serious family fun, the nearest beach is just eight miles away. And your dogs will also be very welcome.
