A fairytale house in a fairytale land where relaxation is no myth

A fairytale house that’s Far, Far Away – yet so close, on the edge of Exmoor. Lawns sweep back to verdant hills in a blaze of bucolic birdsong, cricket and croquet, and drinks around the pool. At Sweetoaks, perfect relaxation is no myth.

A far-away fairytale just a few hours away

This is where garden-party lawns sweep back to the verdant hills. Where the summerhouse nestles snugly into the wooded valley. Where ducks quack and scatter at the thwack of the croquet mallet. Welcome to the fairytale land Sweetoaks, Far, Far Away – and easily reachable in just a few hours, on the edge of Exmoor.

The word relaxation was invented with Sweetoaks in mind. As the kids create waves in the outdoor pool, you can splash some Pinot Grigio into your glasses, sit back among the hot-tub bubbles, or potter around the gardens and woods. Curl up with a book in the Drawing Room, or take afternoon tea on the terrace.

There’s a happy ending around the dining table fit for King Arthur. Get your subjects together and let our chefs create a feast. When you’ve licked your platters clean, they’ll leave you to bond over board games or movies. When exhausted yawns take you to your decadent bedroom, the fairytale morphs swiftly into Sleeping Beauty.

For fun and games, there’s cricket and croquet, trampoline and swings, the games room and 7 acres of fantastical hill, dale and woodland snatched from between the covers of a CS Lewis classic. Step out of the gardens and the village pub and shop is a stroll away; Exmoor waits beyond.

Pool and Gardens

Spend the day splashing around in the heated outdoor pool. The pool house and terrace with garden furniture are great for those who want to relax while the children and big kids make the most of water.

Sweetoaks is nestled in 7 acres of landscaped gardens and blossoming woodlands. The swings, trampoline, netball and basketball hoops are great for the kids to let off some steam and there are croquet and cricket sets for fun on the lawns.

There is a games room in the converted stable block overlooking beautiful Exmoor countryside complete with table tennis, table football, air hockey table and magnetic and Velcro dartboards.

Spend an evening relaxing in the hot tub with a glass of champagne and enjoy the stunning views and the tranquility of the fairytale gardens.

Children Welcome

Sweetoaks comes fully loaded for kids to have a ball. We’ve got the fun stuff and the functional all boxed off to take the pressure off busy parents. Sweetoaks is safe, too, thanks to some thoughtful touches here, and some secure additions there. Manhandling toddlers through their first holiday?

You’ll appreciate the travel cots and high chairs and the plastic cutlery, plates and glasses. Already up and running? Let them loose in the playroom, games room and garden playhouse, or on the trampoline. The pool comes with armbands and floats and we’ve gated it off inside a secure walled garden.

What people say

What people say

"We all had a fantastic holiday. The house feels far more like a home than a holiday house and I think this made for a very relaxing break. We have never returned to a holiday house as we like to explore new places. However, we may make an exception with Sweet Oaks. It is a beautiful house in a picturesque and tranquil setting with a relaxed atmosphere. When you add in the week of sunny days which we had, it made for the perfect holiday. " - Sara

Uncork the untamed beauty of Exmoor

Meander the moors and uncover the untamed beauty of Exmoor. Among the tumbling rivers and heather moors, there’s watersports at Wimbleball Lakes, a star turn on a night-time safari and the relics of an ancient and enchanted England at Dunster.
